Dr. Jnanendra Nath Majumdar (born 15 September 1907) was a distinguished physician and a prominent figure in the field of Homoeopathy, continuing a rich family legacy in medical practice. He completed his schooling at the Metropolitan School in Kolkata, founded by Pandit Ishwar Chandra Vidyasagar, and passed his Intermediate in Science from City College in 1924. He earned his M.B. degree with Honours in Surgery and Midwifery from Carmichael Medical College (now R.G. Kar Medical College) in 1929. Driven by a deep commitment to learning, he obtained an M.Sc. in 1928, while still studying medicine. He pursued advanced medical studies in London, earning his L.R.C.P. and M.R.C.S in 1933 and later his F.R.C.S. from Edinburgh in 1937. At the age of 43, he further expanded his expertise by formally qualifying in Homoeopathy, receiving his D.M.S. in 1950. Dr. Majumdar was subsequently awarded an honorary M.D. from the Council of Homoeopathic Medicine, West Bengal in 1973.
Born into a renowned Homoeopathy family, he was the son of Dr. Jitendra Nath Majumdar and grandson of Dr. Pratap Chandra Majumdar. Despite being qualified with the highest degrees in Modern Medicine (FRCS for Surgery and MSc in Physiology) he practised Homoeopathy all his life from his first day as a medical professional. Supported by his wife, Late Mrs Anima Majumdar, he balanced professional excellence with a strong family life.

Dr Jnanendra Nath Majumdar made significant contributions to the growth and institutional development of Homoeopathy in India. He played a key role in shaping policy and education, helping to secure legal recognition for the State Faculty in Bengal in 1943. As a member of the Homoeopathic Advisory Committee (1956–1966), he was instrumental in drafting the framework for the Central Council of Homoeopathy. His efforts contributed to the enactment of the Homoeopathic Act of 1963 and the development of standardised curricula. These initiatives ultimately led to the establishment of the Central Council of Homoeopathy and the National Institute of Homoeopathy in Calcutta in 1975.
A leading figure in the profession, Dr Majumdar served as President of the All India Homoeopathic Medical Association and supported major conferences, including the All India Homoeopathic Conference in Calcutta. He also presided over the first Assam State Homoeopathic Conference in 1951. Academically, he was Principal of Pratap Chandra Memorial Homoeopathic Medical College and a Visiting Professor of Surgery.
Renowned as a skilled clinician, he attracted patients from across India and abroad. Influenced by masters like Boenninghausen and Boger, he combined practice with research, contributing notably to experimental work and studies such as Aqua Cosmos.
